What to Expect During New Duct Installation

ductwork-installation-process

New ductwork is a big project for your home. If your old ductwork has deteriorated or is simply no longer useful, then you’ll have to replace it to maintain good levels of energy efficiency.

But how do you know what to expect with duct installation in Northbrook, IL? There might be more to it than you realize, so let’s walk through the process together so you aren’t blindsided.

Before the Installation Begins

Before anything is installed, you might have what’s called a pre-installation appointment. This is where the technician will figure out where to run ductwork, scope out the project, and anticipate how many materials it will take.

The reason this step is important is because contractors need to know what size your HVAC system is going to be. If you get it installed by the same company as your duct installers, they’ll have some more information to go off of.

There may also be some questions regarding your family’s lifestyle activity, such as preferred indoor air temperatures and other activities. This helps them find the best system for you, and determine the extent of the ductwork accordingly.

During the Installation Process

It’s the big day. Installers are coming to route your ductwork through your home, and you’ve got to be ready for it. This is a one or two-day process depending on the extent of the work required, but contractors will do their best to do it quickly.

This can be a slightly awkward time since you’ll have one or more technicians in and out of your home. The best thing you can do is live your life like normal, and if your technician needs you for anything, they’ll simply ask.

When it’s All Said and Done

Once everything is installed and put into its proper place, your technicians will go through a brief, but thorough inspection to ensure everything is attached and up to snuff.

There will be a small mess with all the tools and equipment used during the process, which can extend the cleanup time by a little bit. After everything is cleared and technicians know that they don’t have to do any more work, they’ll make sure you’re happy with the work that’s been done.

If you’ve arranged for the old air conditioner unit to be taken away, now would be the time to have that done. Contractors may double-back and make sure there’s no mess left behind from hauling away the old unit.

Then that’s it–you’ll be ready to enjoy your new air conditioner, ductwork, and feel comfort breathe its way throughout your entire home. The process may have felt long, but it’s all worth it in the end.
